big girl, growing up fast

This morning when Madeline woke up she came in our room and pointed to our eyes and said, "eyes." She has been surprising us with little words here and there.

She can now proudly say:

Ashes, ice, eyes, mama, dada, wow, Boo.

She also says "What's that." and makes a funny little face and puts her hands up like she's looking for something.

We are considering ice her first word because she says it the best. She has this funny habit of eating ice, the girl loves it.

She can also sign (out of the blue) because we haven't done baby signing time since she was way little. Anyway, signs more and dog.

She can also identify where her eyes, nose, mouth, ears, hair, head, fingers, toes, tummy, and button are. She's learning so fast and it amazes me the things she learns without us even knowing. She's 14 months and growing fast.

She has also become quite the tease. One of her favorite things to do is steal the bones from the puppies and run around the house screaming until they chase her.

She has also started to love telephones. Cell phones to be exact. She loves to take the phone prop it on her shoulder and lean her ear down and walk around the house jibber jabbing. This can go on for a while. It's pretty entertaining to watch.

details on the poppy seed

Inquiring minds want to know how
far along in this pregnancy I am.
Oh just barely.
5 weeks to be exact.
We aren't due until
March 9, 2010.
We spread the news early so
that Jimmy could enjoy
it a bit before he has to leave.
A while ago I asked Jimmy what he wanted
for his birthday this year and he replied,
"a new baby."
When I found out I was pregnant I made
him pretend that it was his birthday
and I wrapped the pregnancy test up like
a birthday present.
Surprise!

Bellows

Jimmy had some leave time so after all
of our other travels we decided
to relax at Bellows Air Force Base
here on O'ahu.
It's so beautiful and you can rent cabins right
on the beach.
We played in the sand.

Walked in the waves.

Hung out on the beach.

Went to the salon and got our hair done.
Madeline woke up with the craziest hair yet.

We buried Daddy in the sand up to his
neck, and then tried to bury his head too.

We wrote things in the sand and tried to
take pictures before they washed away.

We made funny faces and took pictures to prove it.

We laughed a lot.

Monkey climbed on everything and everywhere.

She felt like such a big girl and was so
proud of herself.

We picked flowers and chased birdies.
Jimmy got stung by a jellyfish.
I didn't.
Neither did Madeline.
We just enjoyed being together as a family.

St. Louis

We went to St. Louis during Jimmy's leave for his
West Point roommate, Patrick's wedding.
St. Louis is 6 hours later time wise than Hawaii....
so at midnight, Madeline was wide awake (every night)
and wondered why we didn't feel the same way...
Needless to say we were sluggish and did a lot of this...
and this...
While we were there we met up with our friends
Roland and Alaina and their adorable little boys
Milo and Oliver. It was so fun to see them.
We went to the zoo!
Cute little Milo
They had a petting zoo and Madeline fell
in love with the goats.

and Milo's puppy backpack

This girl loves animals.

and slushees

Once again not enough pictures. I didn't
get any of Alaina or Oliver and none of us
all together...another bummer.
The wedding was beautiful.
Madeline had a lot of fun and was wide
awake for every second of it.

She spent a lot of time under the pews in the
church. Hey, it kept her quiet during the ceremony and
that makes for a happy mommy.

Little monkey

By the end of the trip we were all pooped! She did really well
during her 10 hours on the airplane. We really couldn't have
asked her to be any better than she was but
it was exhausting and stressful for me.
Good thing we only do this every once in a while.
I think for now we'll stick to our 20 minute flights to other
islands.

Kauai with Scott & Cassi and then some....

Scott and Cassi came to visit us in June.
They stayed at our house for a few days and then
headed over to Kauai.
Jimmy had to go out of town and missed them
and wasn't going to be back before they left so
we were sad about that but....
Scott and Cassi called us after they got to Kauai and said
that they were upgraded to a two bedroom suite at
their fancy schmancy resort and invited us
to go stay with them so we said...
YES!
The hotel was super nice. It had two giant rooms,
three bathrooms, a living room, three patio areas, and
a full kitchen and laundry...we felt spoiled.
We had so much fun hanging out with them.
I miss being around family and everytime someone in
our family comes it just makes me happy and the time
goes by way too fast!
We went snorkeling at tunnels beach.
It was awesome. You could swim out to the edge of the reef
where the water suddenly got super deep and follow it down.
There were tons of beautiful fish.
The sand on this beach was cool too...It was chunky.
Oreos on the beach.
Once again...not enough pictures were taken.
I think I get so wrapped up in the fun that I just
don't think about it. Bummer.
Scott & Cassi
Scott and Jimmy went surfing.
Me and Cassi cheered them on.
Jimmy started leave the day we went to Kauai so we
decided to stay for a few more days after Scott and
Cassi had to go. We stayed at the
Marriott Resort and it was nice too.

Madeline decided it would be fun to throw her
swimming suit off of the
balcony at our hotel. It floated down
to someone else's balcony...she was right,
it was fun.
We went on the Kalalau Trail hike.
It felt like it was up both ways....I'm sure it was.
But it was beautiful...
I love her face in this one...
It lead us to this....

We really love visiting Kauai....especially with family!
We think you all should just move here too.
Come see us again soon!
