8 Months Old!

Madeline is 8 months old!
I can't believe she is getting so old!
It seems like yesterday that she was born
but at the same time like she has always been
a part of our family.
Madeline has changed so much in a month,
it's amazing what a month can do in baby time.
Here are a few of the things she is doing now:
Crawling, that little booger can go.
She crawls just about anywhere she wants to.
Currently her favorite location is the kitchen.
She loves to follow mommy in there.
She likes to lay on the floor and slap the cold tile.
We now strategically place the
couch pillows around the room
to minimize bumps on the head.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.
And the ottoman now serves
as a baby barrier.
She is pulling herself to a standing position.
She really wants to walk and I'm sure she will be soon.
She pulls herself up on the couch,
on mommy and daddy and her favorite spot,
the stairs. Baby gate time might
be sooner than we thought!
She claps and says yaaaa!
When we are watching a tv show
with clapping on it she claps along,
it's really cute.
Madeline waves hello.
She gives kisses, big slobbery ones and likes to snuggle.
She is very very talkative.
Sometimes I think I hear words but
I'm sure it's just my imagination she
mostly says baby chatter.
My favorite is when she wakes up in
the morning and starts talking to herself in her crib.
I could listen to that for hours.
(She wouldn't allow that of course, 10 minutes
tops and she wants out of that bed!)
She has started doing this funny breathing thing
sometimes she snorts like a pig and
she does this low grunting noise.
For a while it sounded like she was imitating
the pups when they pant.
It's really funny to watch.
She is eating solids.
She loves to share our food.
She loves rice, bread, fruits (especially apple sauce),
and vegetables (especially peas and green beans).
She is drinking out of a sippy cup and
loves to drink out a regular cup too.
She's getting really good at taking big gulps
of water and spitting it right back out for fun.
she is tormenting the puppies.
They are being good sports about it.
She is so curious and always on the go.
These days it's hard to get her to hold still long
enough to change her diaper.
it's so funny when she wakes up because it's
like her eyes pop open and instantly
she is doing something.
Madeline is such a happy little girl.
She is always smiling and laughing.
She is such a fun baby. It has been so fun to
watch her grow and learn new things.
We love our little peanut.
We feel so blessed to be her parents.

Pearl Harbor

We finally made it back to Pearl Harbor.
If you come to Hawaii to visit us I am
making you go to Pearl Harbor.
I think it's a pretty amazing memorial.
You get to watch a movie about the
attack on Pearl Harbor and then you board
a Navy boat and they take you
over to the USS Arizona Memorial.
I was really touched by it. You can still see
the oil coming up from the ship.
A wall of all of the names of the people who died.

Madeline got really excited when the lights went
out for the movie.

Makapuu Lighthouse Hike

We hiked up to the Makapuu Lighthouse. We
were really excited because not only
could we take the dogs, but the
trail is paved so we
were able to take the stroller
too! We don't have one of those fancy
baby backpacks and the thought
of carrying Madeline on a hike was
not entirely thrilling in my mind.
Ashes started off the hike tired. She kept
sitting in the shady green areas on the trail.
I wasn't sure if she would make it,
but she was a trooper.
My hunky hubby
There's a spot on the trail that has signs
that tell you all about humpback
whales. You can see them during certain
times of the year on this hike.
We weren't lucky enough to spot
any this time. We sure did
look though. There were a few
times we saw water spouting, I suppose that
could have been them but who knows.
We'll say it was, yes we saw whales on
this hike. It was awesome!

Madeline in her cool safari hat. She loved this hike.
Who wouldn't love to be pushed up a mountain?

We stopped in this little grassy/rocky area to have
a picnic. It was a great spot to just look.

The views from the top.

It was a great hike! We had a lot of fun.
On our way home we decided to let the puppies
try out the water on one of the nearly
empty beaches off to the
side of the road.
Boo wasn't about to go down those rocks!

Daddy gave them a little bit of encouragement.

Boo wasn't about to try out that water!

They eventually got used to it. Boo started attacking
the waves and growling at them. Ashes
was still a little afraid but really liked
rolling around in the sand.

We went the long way home because we
heard that a Brazilian lady sells
Brazilian food on the North Shore.
We couldn't find her. No food for us.
We did see the crazy big waves though!
We have seen big waves on the North Shore
but nothing like this.
These waves were angry waves.
The pictures don't show just how big and
constant they were. They weren't letting
swimmers in the water because they were so
crazy. We did see some insane surfers out in the
middle of them...not sure how they got
out there! Crazies!

Getting to Know the Island

We had so much fun with Jimmy's parents
when they came to visit.
They really entertained us more than
we entertained them.
It was so nice to have them here.
We miss them already!
They spent a lot of time showing us the island.
Here are a few of the things we did...
We went to Chinatown, near Honolulu.
Chinatown is really fun to walk around. They have so many
different restaurants and little markets
where you can buy all of the cheap trinkets or whatever
your heart desires.
We went to the National Memorial Cemetery.
In 1948 a memorial to those who perished from
the attacks on Pearl Harbor was built in Honolulu Hawaii.
It was designed and built into the Pu'owaina Crater
which means Hill of Sacrifice. The dedication is considered
one of the most touching, and also one of the most
beautiful of all American burial sites. The National
Memorial Cemetery in Oahu, also known as the
Punchbowl Memorial, is one of the must-see
Oahu attractions when visiting the island.

We went on this beautiful drive up what felt like the
jungle of Oahu. I can't remember the name.
At the top or actually on the
way down there is a park so we stopped to
take some pictures and let
Madeline play on the grass.
It was foggy that day so the pictures aren't that
great but it was still beautiful.

Madeline got all tuckered out from a day of
sight-seeing.

We spent the day in Waianae. The weather
was kind of rainy so we mostly drove
around and hopped out really quick at a
few of the beaches.
We stopped over at the Pililaau Army Recreation
Center to check out their beach
cottages. We spent a little time on the beach. It
was rainy so we didn't swim...could have though,
it was still warm!

We stopped off at the North Shore.
Of course you can't go there without getting
some shaved ice...mmmm!
We had so much fun and played Perquackey, they introduced
us to plate lunches, we watched good movies, and just really
enjoyed their company!
Madeline asleep with the monkey Grandpa and Grandma
bought her. Grandpa Larry named the
monkey Grandma Becky and it stuck.
